The Benefits of a Summer Job Search

The busy summer season is in full swing, but it’s no reason to slow down your job search. Alaant’s, Tom Schin, shares more on why it’s a great time to find your next job. job. Plus, tips to help get you started.

Hi, Tom Schin here from Alaant Workforce Solutions, here to talk about the benefits of keeping your foot on the gas when applying for new roles during the busy summer months. Hiring managers take notes!

We know that for many people, summer is their time to relax and enjoy. But for job seekers, it can be a great time to apply for jobs. Here are some of the benefits of applying for jobs when everyone else is taking summer vacations:

  • Less competition. When most people are on vacation or busier with summer activities, there are fewer people applying for jobs. This means that you have a better chance of getting that first interview.

  • More opportunities. Many businesses hire interns and “summer” help to ease the workload. But, the need for full-time help is year-round. This means that recruiters are still looking for a long-term solution as summer winds down.

  • Hiring managers are stressed – they want to take time off, their teams want to take off, but there’s still a full workload. This creates extra pressure to find the right candidate (you!)

Keep in mind, there may be some challenges when applying for jobs when everyone else is taking summer vacations. For example, the people who are involved in the interviews often have competing schedules, so the process may take longer.

Be patient, but intentional about your applications. The benefits of applying for jobs when everyone else is taking summer vacations outweigh the challenges. You'll be glad you did.

Here’s a couple of quick tips for job seekers:

  • Start your search now. The earlier you start applying for jobs, the more time you'll have to find a good fit.
  • Be flexible. Be willing to work a different schedule, or different types of jobs. (as well as interview times)
  • Network. Talk to your friends, family, and networking peers
  • Be prepared with an updated resume
  • Use multiple resources. Your network (friends/family); Job boards of course, and consider connecting with a great recruiting firm (Wink Wink Nod Nod)

Whether or not you choose to work with an executive recruiter, or specialty staffing firm, or try it on your own, you can find a great new job that will check many of the boxes you’re looking for. You just need to execute a solid plan.
