Recapping the Spring 2023 Alaant Hiring Index Results!

Stay up on the latest with the Albany, NY - Capital Region job market. Miriam Dushane, Managing Partner of Alaant shares her take on the results of the Spring 2023 Alaant Hiring Index.

Hi I’m Miriam Dushane of Alaant Workforce Solutions.

The results are in- the latest edition of the Alaant Hiring Index!  Thanks to all who came out to join us for the “live reveal” on Tuesday, June 13, it was great to see all of you!

Now- if you missed our event, here’s the results:

We're seeing a significant portion of organizations (56%) report an increase in hiring Year-to-Date (YTD) compared to 2022, with most of these increases falling within the 10-25% range.

This shows a robust trend, reflecting the resilience of our business community and its commitment to growth.

Moreover, 58% of surveyed organizations expect to further increase their hiring in 2023, and 63% of the respondents described their outlook for job growth as either 'optimistic' or 'very optimistic'.

Additionally, there are minimal concerns about a possible recession affecting hiring plans -75% reported no such concerns.

In terms of job opportunities, 'Information Technology' and 'Healthcare' were leading sectors, but a large number of respondents listed roles in the trades, construction and advanced manufacturing growing very fast with demand high.

Organizations are anticipating challenges in hiring over the next six months, with 'wage demands' and 'labor shortage' being the most significant concerns.

Most companies are actively taking steps to overcome these obstacles.

Notably, 70% of organizations are increasing compensation packages, either salaries alone or salaries coupled with other financial incentives.

The results also indicate that many organizations are adapting to the realities of the modern workplace. Over half (56%) of the respondents have a significant portion of their staff working remotely or in a hybrid model.

However, there is still some disparity in approaches to remote working, with a nearly equal split between organizations open to hiring remote employees and those that are not.

In conclusion, these survey results paint an encouraging picture of the current job market. Despite facing challenges, organizations are demonstrating resilience and adaptability, with a positive outlook for the future.

At Alaant, we are excited to continue supporting employers in navigating the changing landscape and look forward to another productive year of contributing to job growth in our region.

I also want to send a special thank you to our panelists Aileen Flach, Matt Grattan & Nick Sistito for joining us on Tuesday. We appreciate your time-sharing insights on your workforce and the region.    If you missed the live event- don’t worry, we will be posting a link to the event very soon!
