I’m Miriam Dushane of Alaant Workforce Solutions. Recently we polled our newsletter and social media audience on the topic of Quiet Hiring and if they may have been a victim of this practice. Surprising to me the overall response of the poll was that people were not aware of what Quiet Hiring is.
Quiet Hiring is a term that is gaining traction in which an Employer assigns more work to existing staff or employee rather than hiring a new employee into an open role with no change to pay or status of the existing affected employee.
Many employers may be tempted to do this given the current economic conditions and the difficulty in finding skilled workers. But the reality is that this is not a long-term fix and could have a drastic impact on the morale of your organization.
So how can you avoid this temptation of Quiet Hiring? Here are 3 tips that might help.
If you find yourself with an employment vacancy-
1) Evaluate the role and the workload resulting from that vacancy.
2) Examine and identify if you can disperse the work fairly and if you compensate appropriately.
3) Don’t over burden your current team, that’s the last thing you want to do. Saving headcount now might seem like a prudent move, but it could ultimately destroy your team and culture and that quick fix you thought you had will result in more work for you and loss of revenue for your company.
At Alaant we give employers great options to help their workforce get to full strength without feeling the need to Quiet Hire. Can we help you? Call me today at 518-689-3138 or visit our website at Alaant.com. I hope we can talk soon!
