For those of you entertaining a new role, what are your key decision making criteria? Whether you’re actively or passively on the market, knowing the most important elements for your career will help you focus and find the perfect fit.
Here are a few things to consider:
- Why are you considering a change? With all the hype about the great resignation and reshuffle be sure you are making the move for the right reasons and for things that can’t be accomplished with your current employer.
- Define your salary expectations – think about what it needs to look like for in person (commuting) but also for hybrid or remote roles where you don’t have to spend the time, nor the gas to get to the office as much.
- Break out your MUST haves, vs. your nice to haves – like company culture (what does it need to look or feel like vs. what it should NOT look like)
- Professional development – while you shouldn’t expect a promotion in the next six months, what are your goals, and how is a potential employer going to help you get there (i.e. leading projects, leading people, training, etc.)
- Finally, Flexibility – knowing what your potential employers do, can give you a sense of their views on workplace flexibility (i.e. going to your kid’s soccer games or school event, taking a midday appointment, etc.)
