Rose shared the best advice she’s ever been given, her advice to those just starting out in their career, what her superpower is and how she achieves work-life balance:
The best advice I was ever given:
I grew up in an Italian immigrant home where the girls were expected to marry and have children. College and career were distractions to what was really important. I wanted more and my story plays out like a version of Big Fat Greek Wedding: sneaking off to college and bringing new ideas back home that were met with great resistance. Secretly, my dad was on my side and he whispered in my ear one day: “You go do it!” It was a validating moment that gave me the courage to leave home and pursue my dreams. Never mind the haters. Believe in yourself, you are your biggest advocate. I have always identified with the underdog, the suppressed and the disadvantaged. I love breaking stereotypes and I believe we can all excel if we believe we can.
Advice I’d give to those just starting out in their career:
Be a sponge for learning. Never think you know it all. We must all have the ability and be prepared to learn, pivot and change at a moment’s notice. And to be successful, you need to have a plan and be open to changing the plan as needed. Resiliency is the top quality.
My superpower:
I have an amazing ability to build great teams of people and to rally them around a common cause. I’m a Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings fan and creating amazing fellowship is definitely in my wheelhouse.
Work-life balance:
It ebbs and flows. It’s important to make sure that when you are doing any one thing you are there and fully present. Focus on the person, the place or the thing whether at work or at play.
