Alaant recently conducted our fall hiring index and found that 71% of companies are optimistic about job growth.
Asked about plans for hiring to finish 2018 and start the New Year, 58% of employers said they expect to add jobs. This is good news for job seekers in the Capital Region.
As we are in one of the tightest labor markets in history, these results really speak to the strength and diversity of the region’s economy.
But it will continue to be important for companies to stand out in terms of their brand and culture as well as be proactive (execute a thoughtful recruiting strategy vs. one-off recruiting tactics) about attracting and retaining key talent to their workforce. We know this continues to be an area of concern.
75% of employers expect hiring to be either a significant challenge or challenging over the next 6 months, up from 60% in the spring.
Here is what continues to affect employers' ability to hire:
36%
of employers identified salary and wage demands.
35%
cited the skills gap as a major challenge.
Employers are seeing encouraging signs as well:
71%
are finding qualified candidates right here in the Capital Region.
23%
said they are finding candidates both in and out of the region.
These results are nearly identical with findings in the spring hiring index survey.
These are the fields where job opportunities are expanding the fastest and showing the most growth:
28%
Information Technology
20%
Healthcare
